Horsham Town Wildways
Horsham Town Wildways (see map below) are our initiative to bring us closer to nature by creating wildlife corridors throughout the town. We have mapped 7 high-level Wildways and have completed habitat assessments on them all.
All Wildways pass through public spaces managed by Horsham District Council and parts of these are in HDC’s three year mowing regime trial.
Potential benefits of leaving part of our Green Spaces for nature include:
Encouraging plants and fungi that are native to the UK to re-establish themselves, bringing with them a wide variety of invertebrates, birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals.
Enriching human senses by bringing different colours, scents and wildlife to a space that was previously a green grass monoculture.
We have just started this urban nature recovery project and welcome all who wish to be involved!
Does a Wildway pass near where you live?
Is there a green space near you or a garden that you would like to improve?
Shandy’s Brook is a great example of what can be achieved!
We have some ideas for what you could do on our Improve My Patch page.
Let us know how you would like to get involved!
